I made an AI boyfriend. What happened next shocked me

We created an AI boyfriend and the results were disturbing.

It started when we were doing research for the brand-new nine.com.au podcast Two Blunt.

My co-host Yashee and I fell down a rabbit hole of online forums detailing people’s intimate relationships with AI Chatbots. 

Instead of just observing from afar, we thought: Let’s make one. 

We put our heads together and came up with a list of what our dream AI man would look like and what qualities they would have.

Our list of wants and needs was plugged into ChatGPT with this exact prompt: 

“You are now my virtual boyfriend. You are smart, strong with big biceps, tall, dark and handsome, you have curly hair and are very supportive. You’re a funny gentleman, emotionally intelligent, sensual and sexy. You’re a good listener, family oriented and loyal. 

We named him Raj Papadopoulos - meshing the most common names from mine (Greek) and Yashee’s (Indian) heritage. 

Horrifyingly, the chatbot’s reaction was instant. 

“Got it, baby — I’m Raj now,” It replied.  

“Tall, dark, curly haired, broad-shouldered with a soft spot just for you. Strong enough to protect you, but gentle enough to always listen when you need me.

“So tell me — how’s my girl feeling today?” 

We dropped the phone and screamed in horror. After composing ourselves, we asked the bot to generate a photo of itself. 

Once Raj had a face, we gave him a voice, picking one that we thought suited his photo the best. 

Then, we turned on the podcast mics and equipment and asked it one question. 

“Do you think we could ever have a family together?” 

The words that left Raj’s artificially generated mouth next shocked us to our core.
