"I saw this really interesting etiquette question come up in a newsletter that I read, and it's, 'What's a polite way to tell people that your apartment is not a free hotel?'" content creator Navera began her video.
Navera explained that when she moved to New York, she was inundated with requests from acquaintances "coming out of the woodwork" to ask to stay with her.

"I would never hear from them ever again," she confessed.
"Here's what I wish I knew how to articulate back in the day, which would have saved me a lot of hassle."
Navera suggests telling your friend: "I'm not able to host anyone right now, but I'm so excited you're visiting.
"While you're here, let me know what would be a good time to go get dinner, coffee, a drink, a walk, whatever you prefer."
Navera said most people will find the friend who is hoping to stay for free will end up "not even going to want to hang out with you if you are not hosting them."
"If anyone is trying to decide if they want to be your friend or not based on if you can host them. It's not a friend," she concluded.

Viewers quickly praised Navera for her suggestions, writing: "Great advice. Happens to me all the time. I'm going to use this."
"Wait this just excavated so many memories of people I hosted and literally never heard from again," another added.
