A woman's pantry makeover has helped transform the way she stores everything in her kitchen by making a huge change to how the room is usually organised.

Instead of toiling away rearranging food and ingredients in the pantry trying to find a system that works, Leigh Davey decided to toss out the rule book.

She shared her unconventional swap in a TikTok video that has had almost a million views in just two days.

"Whoever said put all your crockery in your pantry was a genius!" she captioned the clip.

That's right – Davey is now storing her plates, bowls, ceramic baking dishes and kitchen appliances in the pantry instead of food.

Many people who watched the video were intrigued by the idea but had the same question you're probably wondering right now.

"Now you need to show us your food as I'm not fully convinced. It looks good but I need more evidence first," a woman commented.

"I'm here for the next vid on how the food is stored. I'm like 65% sold on this," one wrote.

"Wow! Love this. I'm curious to see how you organized the food in your cupboards," another said.

It wasn't long to wait until Davey revealed how she is storing her food now that the pantry is full of crockery with another TikTok video showcasing the completed swap.

The new clip shows food and cooking ingredients stored in the cupboards under the bench with baking supplies, cereal, spreads and seasoning all where plates and appliances are usually kept.

"Moved crockery to pantry and food to cupboards. Now have a great workable space with everything to hand," the text on her video read.

Of course there were questions and concerns about the switch and how it would work, including one person worried that food would go off sooner if you can't see it.

"I have a cupboard for all my baking and a cupboard for everyday stuff. We eat a lot of fresh food and I'm being a lot more mindful of expiry dates," Davey explained.

Meanwhile, some said their cats would likely get into the cupboards if food was there but one had a simple solution.

"I have child locks on my cupboards because of my cat doesn't matter what is in the cupboards she wants in," they commented.

And there was one person who simply said "Why does it feel wrong" – an understandable comment given the pantry's traditional function as food storage.

However, organising the home doesn't have to be about doing things the way they've always been done. Instead it's about what works for you and your household and if the system ends up being easy to use and gets cluttered and disorganised less often that's all that matters.

The swap Davey put in place in her home has also been done by several people who have found it works for them.

"I just did this and what a difference it has made, and the food cupboards are organised and no half eaten, open packets of food any where to be seen," one said in the comment section of the TikTok.

"I've done this, took the family a bit to get used to but now we love it!" another wrote.

"Just showed my grandma this. she is feeling so ahead of time right now. Been doing this for decades," a TikToker said.

Others revealed that they've done things a little differently too, though not with the full pantry food swap.

"We do half half in our pantry. I don't have enough dishes or cupboard food apparently," a woman commented.

"I have an extra larger laundry room and was able to make 1/2 a walk in pantry and now my small panty in kitchen is all my dishes etc . It makes things so organized!" another said.
