Soap scum covered bathroom sink transformed with powerful cleaning product combination
A bathroom basin left patchy and discoloured with soap scum has been restored with the help of two popular cleaning products.
The before-and-after transformation was shared online in the Reddit Cleaning Tips group with photos revealing just how well the cleaning job went.
"Still not as good as I want it. Slightly perfectionist sometimes. However, I won't be in this apartment forever. Next time I'll be cleaning the sink from the beginning, morning and night," they wrote.

The person who made the post added that they tend to neglect cleaning sinks because of how frequently they're in use.
As for the products that got the sink clean again, they mostly used baking soda (bi-carb soda) to scrub the surface and then followed that up with cult cleaning product Bar Keepers Friend.
Now the sink is clean again, there are tips to help keep it that way for longer.

The easiest hack to ensure as little residue build up as possible is to wipe over your bathroom sink with a cloth.
This can be done at the end of the day after you've brushed your teeth before bed by keeping some cleaning cloths in the bathroom, for example in a container under the sink.
Then weekly or fortnightly, cleaning with dishwashing liquid, vinegar and water or your preferred cleaning agent and a non-scratch scourer or cleaning cloth will ensure any residue that has remained on the sink is removed.
Failing those prevention steps, the first thing you need to do if your sink is covered in residue is to work out what material it is made from as this will determine what cleaning product is best.
For example a porcelain sink shouldn't be cleaned with a scourer while a natural stone sink shouldn't be cleaned with vinegar as they can cause damage to those surfaces.

If using baking soda like the renter used for the cleaning transformation above, all you need to do is sprinkle it over the surface and scrub with a damp microfibre cloth before rinsing.
For more difficult stains and residue, adding some dishwashing liquid to the bicarb soda will make a powerful cleaning paste that you scrub the sink with using a cloth.
Both baking soda and water and baking soda and dishwashing liquid can be left on for a few minutes to help break down stains and residue if preferred.
