Candles have to be one of the most versatile home décor items. Not only do they look stunning and fragrance the home, but they can be reused once all the wax is melted.

It's something Aussie mum Emily Mae has discovered, revealing on TikTok that it's the secret behind her stunning bowl collection.

"Here is my quick little Kmart hack. All my bowls that I use for my kitchen are just old finished candles from Kmart," she said.

"I just boil [water in a kettle and pour that in the empty candle bowl], get the wax off and take out the candles and voila, little cute ceramic bowls," she said showing one with strawberries in it.

Given how gorgeous the candle bowls and jars from Kmart are it makes sense to keep using them when the candle is finished.

It's also a very affordable hack with Kmart's candles ranging in price from $1 for the small fragrant candles which come with a glass jar and lid, to $15 for the extra large soy wax candle jars and large fragrant candles in ceramic bowls.

There are even candle designs that come in a little cocktail glass and mirror ball-inspired vessels.

Candle jars and bowls have lots of different uses around the home, but if you are thinking of putting food in them ensure that they are food-safe first.

Other options include storage for pens, as plant pots or even making your own candle by adding a wick and pouring melted wax in the empty vessel.

Repurposing candle jars and bowls is something Kmart buyer Nicholas Holmes is a fan of. He told 9honey Living it's one of his favourite Kmart hacks that he's seen customers do.

"The other one that I'm loving and I wanna do it myself is when the candles are finished, utilising the vessels – because they're beautiful glass vessels – people putting makeup brushes in them, keeping them out on display and it's a little bit more sustainable," he said at a Kmart event.

With both Halloween and Christmas approaching, Kmart has plenty of themed candle designs that you can use as candles this year and decorations next year.

One particular Halloween design that would be fun to use once empty is the $7 hocus pocus candle, which has an apple and cinnamon fragrance and is small cauldron with handle.

As for Christmas, the $12 globe candles, which feature a festive scene in a snow globe as part of the lid on the glass jar, will look stunning as a decorative storage piece next year that you could hide a few packaged treats in.
