The stunning $12 Kmart hack you'll be seeing everywhere this Christmas

If there's one decorating trend dominating this Christmas it's bows and lots of them, and they're being added anywhere and everywhere for a look that's both festive and stunning.

One place I never thought to put a bow until I saw it at Kmart's Christmas event, Kmart Merry Market, in Melbourne this week was at the top of a tree.

There were Christmas trees dotted throughout the Canvas House venue for the gathering, but one in particular caught my eye when I found out the tree topper was actually Kmart's $12 giant red door bow.

I've seen people using the bow for its designated purpose by adding it to their front doors, but it never occurred to me to use the 68cm by 44cm bow anywhere else.

Kmart general manager marketing, Rennie Freer, described the giant door bow tree topper hack as "genius" and a "really beautiful styling tip".

The bow decorations extend beyond the giant door bow to clip on bows in red or white that can be used to decorate the tree or other areas of the home.

There are also giant bows in shiny red or gold for $8 that you can decorate the house with and also use as tree toppers.

You can even extend the bow look to the Christmas lunch table with red bow napkin rings and add them to your outfit with hair accessories and earrings.

After starting to emerge as a trend last year, bows have taken off in a big way this Christmas which is something Kmart noticed.

"It's so classy, isn't it? I think it's been a really lovely build this year into our range that is so elevated but so accessible and can be done on gifting, can be done on doors – it's really taken off on doors," Freer said during a chat with 9honey Living at the Merry Market event.

"Another trend I love is seeing it around trees. Have you seen that? Some streets that are decorating their entire streets, they're wrapping them around actual trees ... so the whole community [is] getting involved."

Even Freer has gotten into the bow trend with her Christmas tree this year.

"I've already got my tree up. This year I went early because I find the essence it brings into the house, I really love, particularly as things start to get busy at this time of year, I find it's actually really calming to have it up.

"I keep it really simple and really classic, and this year I've really leant into the gold and red and the bows. I was really inspired.

"I actually think what I love about it is it's foolproof with the clips [on the back of the bow decorations] and that real pop of red, I think that's brought it to the next level."
