The $4 Kmart buy that can clean almost everything in your house

The best advice I have learned as a cleaning writer is that one very simple, yet effective product can clean almost everything.

It's advice that I've been putting into practice for years now and still swear by it for its affordability, ease of use and sparkling results.

That product is dishwashing liquid, which I love cleaning with so much I keep a bottle in the bathroom as well as by the kitchen sink.

My dishwashing liquid of choice at the moment is part of Kmart's new cleaning solutions range.

The bottle contains 750ml for just $4 – which should last you ages since you only need a small squirt – and comes in citrus and floral fragrances.

My favourite thing to clean with dishwashing liquid is shower glass but I also use it for the bathroom basin, vanity mirror and shower floor.

It is one of the best products for cleaning grout because it is so gentle.

You can even clean the entire toilet with it.

My go-to method is to squirt a little on a damp cleaning cloth or non-scratch scourer and get scrubbing or wiping.

An alternative is to add a squirt of dishwashing liquid to a spray bottle and add warm water, shake to mix before spraying and scrubbing.

Windows can also be cleaned with a drizzle of dishwashing liquid and warm water, as can tiled floors.

Kitchen cupboards are another spot you can use dishwashing liquid for by dunking a cloth in warm soapy water and wiping the surface. Then rinse off with a cloth dampened in only water and finish with a dry cloth.

Dishwashing liquid is great for scrubbing the kitchen sink with and ideal to use before going in with a cream cleanser or polish.

Fridge shelves and compartments can get the dishwashing liquid treatment too during the weekly or fortnightly clean.

For things like the oven you can mix dishwashing liquid with baking soda (bicarb soda) to make a paste.

If it's mouldy grout you've got, add hydrogen peroxide to the dishwashing liquid and baking soda paste to help remove discolouration.

While dishwashing liquid gets most cleaning done and removes germs, to actually disinfect you'll need to use an antibacterial spray for particular spots.

Areas like the toilet, kitchen sink and bench all benefit from a weekly spray.

You'll also need to use it in between those weekly cleans if raw meat or raw meat juice has been exposed to the bench and sink.

Kmart's dishwashing liquid fragrance can be matched to the scent of its antibacterial sprays which also come in floral and antibacterial sprays fragrances and cost $4 each.

For quick cleaning tasks or staying fresh and hygienic on the go, the $4 pack of 120 cleaning wipes is a must. They are available in citrus, floral and 120 cleaning wipes fragrances.

There is one cleaning task dishwashing liquid isn't much help for and that's laundry.

Fortunately, Kmart has included the laundry in its new cleaning range.

All products are $4 each and include laundry detergent and fabric softener in ocean fresh and floral stain remover spray.
