TikToker transforms an $8 Ikea rug into a cute boho-style cushion without sewing a single stitch

A DIYer has revealed a simple way to make your own gorgeous cushion for a bargain price, and the best part is you don't even need to know how to sew.

TikToker @kjg_home first saw the project on TikTok and decided to try it herself.

She then shared her own video on the platform to show how she made her own cushion.

For the DIY @kjg_home used the $8 Sortsö rug from Ikea, which is flatwoven and features fringing on the top and bottom with textured detailing running the entire length of the rug..

To turn the rug into a cushion the TikToker folded the rug in half and then folded one side in half again so the fringing sat on top of the first fold.

Then she folded the other half so that the fringing on the top of the rug sat just on top of the bottom layer of fringing.

Next @kjg_home grabbed her hot glue gun and glued all the layers along the right-hand side of the cushion.

Before gluing the other side, she took some stuffing and filled the rug until it reached a cushion-like shape and size.

Finally, she used the hot glue gun to glue down the left-hand side to secure the stuffing place.

To finish, @kjg_home placed the cushion in the centre of the pillow display on her bed.

The cushion looks like a boho-style piece you'd end up paying $40 for in a homewares store.

The TikToker's cushion hack got a mixed-response from viewers, with some loving the project

"Such a good idea!!!!" one commented.

"This is genius," posted one.

"Love this!!" another wrote.

Others, meanwhile, were concerned about the cushion not being washable. Some suggested using either fabric glue, which is washable, or sewing it instead.

The no-sew cushion isn't the first DIY hack @kjg_home has shown her followers how to make.

She also revealed how to turn a throw blanket into one of those trendy knot cushions.

To make this one, she took a blanket she already owns and rolled the long-sides towards the centre.

The TikToker then folded that in half and tied the two sides into a knot. She finished by tucking each end into the centre of the knot.

"Upcycling or a great way to store your blankets," she captioned her video.

This project is a completely free way to create a new cushion for your sofa or bed, and would look great next to the no-sew rug cushion.
