DIY fan transforms plain Ikea drawers into elegant dresser with 'one million' ice block sticks
One clever DIY fan has proved ice block sticks aren't just great for kids' craft projects, they can also be used to turn boring furniture into stunning statement pieces.
UK based social media star Charley has wowed her TikTok followers with a video tutorial on her transformation of an Ikea malm dresser drawer unit.
Charley, who goes by the handle @thisgirldiys, added a herringbone wood-inspired look to the drawer panels using what we Aussies like to refer to as "Paddle Pop sticks".
"I added pieces of strip wood [to frame the drawer panel], chopped up one million lollipop sticks and stuck them down using gorilla glue," she explained in the clip.
"Then I filled using one seal wood filler — it's exactly the right colour that you'll need, so it's perfect for this job. Sanded it all down and wiped away the dust."

Once Charley added the handles to the drawer panels she was finished. The result is an elegant drawer unit that looks far from a typical Ikea flat pack piece.
The DIY has been a hit on TikTok with more than 500,000 views so far. Charley's followers also loved it and want to try it out for themselves.
"Gorgeous! Did you need to seal the wood at all?" a woman asked.
"I haven't but you easily could," Charley responded.

Charley's followers also realised she had painted the Ikea unit ,which she purchased in the colour white stained oak. However, the drawer is also available in white if you want to skip that step.
"Going to give this a go! Incredible work — hoping it looks as good buying the white dresser rather than painting. What depth where your sticks?" a woman asked in the comments.
Charley told the woman the sticks were jumbo size and purchased from eBay, which is probably easier than eating a million ice creams and saving them up.
