Mess-free hack to get rid of your leftover cooking oil

After a long time in front of the stove, it can be tempting to simply throw leftover cooking oil down the drain, but this will ultimately likely clog your plumbing.

A home and living hacks Instagram account has shared a clever and mess-free way to safely and easily dispose of excess oil, with only two items.

All you need is some aluminium foil and a cup.

The video says to use the cup as a mould, wrapping it in foil and then removing the cup so the foil holds the shape.

Then, prop up the foil cup into the drain in the kitchen sink and pour the oil from the pan into the foil.

Then, wipe the remaining oil from the pan with kitchen paper and put it into the foil cup before closing the top and throwing it in the rubbish bin.

Other commenters shared tips on how they dispose of their extra oil.

"Just place paper towels in the skillet (pan) and soak up the grease and throw them away," said one.

"Wait till it's cold and scrap it in the trash," another added.

"Mum taught us to save the empty Nescafé instant coffee glass bottle," said one who said collected the grease in the bottle. "Works well," they said.

"Nobody does the grease container in the freezer trick?" one asked, "Fill a container up over time, store it in the freezer.

"When it's eventually full, rinse the sides quick with hot water to unstuck the frozen grease from the container, then dump it in the trash. Reuse the container."
