Groom's devastating diagnosis less than a year after 'dream' wedding

A newlywed couple in the UK has been dealt a cruel blow less than a year after their nuptials.

Chris Brooks, 36, and wife Kristy were settling into married life when Chris began experiencing severe headaches, double vision and numbness in his leg.

A mass was located in Chris' brain and he underwent an "awake craniotomy" on July 4. Shortly after the procedure he was diagnosed with a Grade 4 Astrocytoma, an incurable form of brain cancer.

Kristy explains on a crowdfunding page her husband has been given a prognosis of 12 to 18 months, with the aggressive tumour deemed likely to return.

Now the family is raising funds for a new immunotherapy treatment at a clinic in Germany.

Kristy's sister Kelly Elder tells 9Honey Chris is "feeling very tired from the treatment he is currently having."

"He is currently having treatment five days a week for six weeks, then chemo for six months," she explains.

The family is hoping to raise £60,000 ($101,773) for the new treatment and travel expenses.

Family and friends are organising fundraisers in addition to the crowdfunding page which has so far raised £11,835 ($20,074).

The couple shares three daughters "who unfortunately this is going to have a huge affect on and will sadly change their lives as well," sister Kelly explains.

Kelly tells 9Honey it is "incredible that our story has reached as far as Australia!"

And support has been flooding in not just from the UK and Australia but from around the world.

One woman shared on the family's crowdfunding page her three-year-old grandson was diagnosed with a brain tumour six months ago, adding that it "totally shook our world."

"He had successful surgery and 95% of his tumour has been removed," she continued. "He has regular scans to monitor the remaining bit left. He is doing well and it is a lower grade tumour but my heart goes out to you as you never think it will happen to you. I will pray that the treatment you so want to try is available for you and that Chris does well. With my best regards."
