Groom tricks bride into sleeping in a tent on the eve of their wedding

A groom from the British TV Series Don't Tell The Bride has been slammed for making his wife-to-be sleep in a tent before the wedding while he stayed in a luxury hotel.

The reality TV series allows grooms to plan the big day, leaving their fiancées completely in the dark, or in this case, out in the cold wilderness until they walk down the aisle.

The groom Jake, 26, has been labelled the "worst" the show has ever featured, but says he did it in an attempt to make his future wife Rosie, 30, less "high-maintenance".

"She can get quite insecure about the way she looks. I tell her how beautiful she is all the time, how she doesn't need all this stuff," he said.

"But if I take that out of her control, she's going to have to get married anyway. She'll say she looks 'rough', but to me she'd still look beautiful."

Although the sentiments sounded sweet, even the best man tried to change his mind.

Rosie had a breakdown and was devastated after learning that instead of the cute barn wedding she'd always pictured, her future husband had organised for them to get married at Wickham Festival in front of 7,000 people.

Rosie and her bridesmaids were tricked into camping after being told it was her second hen's party when, actually, it was the eve of her big day.

While they struggled to roll sleeping bags and not get lost finding the portaloo, Jake and his groomsman were drinking champagne at a upmarket hotel.

On realising she was getting married at a festival, Rosie was devastated, saying, "It's my f---ing wedding day. I'm not alright".

"I don't want to see him. I'm not getting ready. I want to be excited and enjoy the morning and I'm still sat in a tent."

Although the couple made it down the aisle (or stage left, past the sound system) in the end, viewers said they would have been furious if they were in Rosie's position.

Jake may have thought he was making a sweet gesture, but people thought it was more satanic.

"It's scary that the man she is about to be with forever hasn't considered her once or how she would feel" one Twitter user said.

Another thought that Jake should start making plans for his future. "Jake better plan a funeral as well as a wedding," they joked.
