A grocery receipt from 1992 has laid bare just how much supermarket prices have increased.

The receipt, from a Safeway store, has been shared on Reddit's 'Australian Nostalgia' thread.

The receipt shows seven items including milk, ricotta, bananas, eggs and Cadbury chocolate purchased at a Safeway store, a subsidiary of Woolworths.

The total of the items is a reasonable $12.10.

When compared with Woolworths prices today, it shows a more than 50 per cent increase in prices.

The increase is consistent with reports of cost-of-living pressures being reported, particularly when it comes to the supermarket check out.

"Egg prices aren't that bad today considering that was 20 years ago," one Redditer commented.

"Love the full credit card number printed on the docket too! Simpler times!" another observed.

One Redditer observed: "Geez that many groceries and the receipt is only that long?? Now you get 2 things and pull out a metre long receipt."

"Milk was expensive! Same price until a year or so ago," said one.
