Girl with cerebral palsy to get life-changing treatment thanks to Australian public

A Queensland girl is a step closer to being able to walk on her own, after generous donations from the public. 

Four-year-old Ciara Burgin suffers from cerebral palsy spastic diplegia meaning she currently can't walk unaided. 

Earlier this year A Current Affair caught up with Ciara and her mother Ashling, as they started to raise the more than 100 thousand dollars needed, to travel to the US for revolutionary surgery to help little Ciara. 

"Her level of pain will decrease, if not be non-existent, she will be able to walk in all environments independently." Mum Ashling told A Current Affair. 

The surgery will be performed by Dr T.S Park in St Louis, Missouri. He's currently the only specialist in the world who performs this type of procedure, called selective dorsal rhizotomy.
