All four of Gina Rinehart's children feature on AFR's rich list with billions of dollars in family money

Gina Rinehart is the richest Australian, worth $37.41 billion, according to the latest Australian Financial Review Rich List 2023.

Her four children also feature on the annual wealth ranking.

Gina, 69, has two children from her first marriage to Greg Hayward – John Hancock, 47, and Bianca Rinehart, 46. The pair divorced in 1981.

Her two youngest children – Hope Rinehart, 37, and Ginia Rinehart, 36, - are from her second marriage to Frank Rinehart. Frank died away in 1990.

The family's wealth comes from Hancock Prospecting, founded by her late father Lang Hancock and of which Gina is Executive Chairman.

It is her youngest child Ginia who has ranked the highest on the list at 46 with $2.47 billion, followed by her eldest John at 47 with $2.43 billion.

Next is Gina's second eldest child Bianca at 49 with $2.4 billion, then Bianca at age 50 with $2.42 billion.

Let's take a look at who Gina Rinehart's four children are, and how they arrived at their place on the rich list.

John Hancock

John Hancock is the eldest of Gina Rinehart's children. In 2003 he changed his surname by deed poll from his father's surname of Hayward to Hancock.

It has been reported he and his mother have had a difficult relationship since 2014 for reasons unknown, with Gina not attending his wedding to Gemma Ludgate.

John is one of the beneficiaries of Hope Margaret Hancock Trust along with his siblings, which owns 23.45 per cent of the business and was set up by Lang Hancock to provide for his grandchildren.

John works as a senior advisor at Lind Partners LLC and runs his own private investment fund.

John and his wife Gemma have three children: Georgia, 17, Jasmine, 14 and Zara, 9.

As of 2020 the family was living outside of London in the UK and travel regularly to Dubai and Switzerland.

Bianca Rinehart

Bianca Rinehart is Gina Rinehart's second eldest child and was once believed to be her mother's favourite.

She was once set to take over the family business as director of Hancock Prospecting and HMHT Investments.

In 2011, for reasons unknown, she was replaced by her sister Ginia Rinehart.

Bianca is married to Sasha Serebryakov and was married in Hawaii in 2013. Her mother did not attend the wedding.

She has joined her brother John Hancock in taking action against their mother to access the funds being held in the Hope Margaret Family Trust. Bianca replaced her mother as trustee in 2015, after a lengthy court battle. Ongoing legal action now centres on the payment of historical dividends and remains in arbitration.

Bianca has a degree in hospitality and hotel management from Flinders University in Adelaide.

Bianca and her family reportedly live in Brisbane in Queensland but are rarely seen. She and her husband also share a son.

Hope Rinehart

Hope Rinehart is Gina Rinehart's third child and is as private as her sister Bianca.

She was previously married to Ryan Welker and lived with him in New York, however they later divorced. Gina did attend Hope's wedding in 2005.

While John and Bianca's legal fight with their mother over the trust continues, Hope settled with her mother in 2013 after experiencing financial difficulties following her divorce.

Ginia Rinehart

Ginia Rinehart is the youngest of Ginia's children and the closest to her mother.

She never joined her siblings dispute against their mother over access to the Hope Margaret Hancock Trust.

Ginia also sided with her mother in the family legal battle over the family trust, elevating her to take over the family business instead of her elder sister Bianca.

Ginia is married to her former bodyguard, Simon Robinson, with her mother attending their wedding in 2016. She works with her mother at Hancock Prospecting and is set to take over the company.

Ginia and Simon are based in Bondi in Sydney. She is reportedly estranged from her siblings.
