Supermarkets are currently battling supply chain shortages due to the Omicron surge, meaning staff members who are able to come to work are busier than ever.

"To give you a sense of the magnitude of the challenge, we are experiencing COVID-driven absences of 20 per cent-plus in our distribution centres and 10 per cent-plus in our stores," Woolworths CEO Brad Banducci said this morning in a letter to customers.

Suppliers, truck drivers, distribution centre staff and store staff in isolation means that it's a stressful time on storefronts, but Woolies has come up with a simple and "wholesome" way to brighten their staff members' days. Watch above.

In a video shared to Woolworths Australia's official TikTok page, the grocery giant showed customers how they can leave sweet messages for the workers who facilitate the collection of their online order items.

Under each item in the cart of the online store, customers can add a note for the personal shopper — such as "Thanks for all your hard work! Happy New Year" — which can then be seen by store workers who put together online orders as they go through the store and collect each requested item.

Woolies workers across Australia flooded the comments of the video, with many writing that these personal notes make their days.

Customers also weighed in on the kind gesture, with one admitting they took the personal note function a little further than words.

"I bought a choccy for the worker/told them to keep it and happy new year hehe," one customer wrote. "I hope they enjoyed their treat!"

Another customer was merely stunned that they could add specific requests to their order in the first place.

"Wait, so I can ask for my bananas to be on the greener side!!!?" a customer asked.

"That's right!" Woolworths replied. "You can add instructions like that in the shopper notes section! ☺"
