'Ok miss sugary Starbucks': US influencer roasted for 'ridiculous' take on Aussie coffee

Kate Rafferty

A US travel influencer has been pulled apart online for her unfathomable review of Australian coffee, ruffling the feathers of coffee-lovers nationwide.

TikToker Erin Fang, who is better known as @thelittlebasketco, travelled to Australia this year, visiting Queensland, Sydney and Melbourne.

While the influencer provided as many travel tips as possible for foreigners flying to our country, some of her advice has left Aussies pretty disgruntled – namely, her take on our local brew.

"Don't fall for the coffee," Fang tells her followers in a viral video that now has over 119,700 views. Watch the riling video above.

"Honestly, we heard that Melbourne had the best coffee, but it just didn't live up to the hype," Fang said.

She added: "However, if you have to splurge on one, definitely go with Patricia's."

The coffee house Fang refers to is none other than Patricia Coffee Brewers on Little Bourke St in the Melbourne CBD.

The coffee shop is a small hole in the wall, known for attracting long lines and delivering tasty cups of steaming hot liquid gold.

And though Fang left hardly impressed, Aussies in the comments are saying it's not the coffee that's the problem.

The leading comment, with over 1,300 likes definitely brought on a bit of a giggle: "Australian coffee is among the best in the world, get your tastebuds right miss sugary Starbucks," wrote one user.

The one thing we can agree with? Any line like this outside of a coffee shop is a big no. TikTok / @thelittlebasketco

"That's [because] Aussie coffee is actually natural instead of American coffee that's filled with chemicals and sugar," another user critiqued.

"Imagine actually tasting real coffee in Australia and then still preferring a coffee-flavoured milkshake like Starbucks," wrote a third.

Another simply wrote: "This is just ridiculous."

As if Fang's review wasn't bad enough, she then went on to make a bold claim that just about sent her Aussie viewers over the edge.

"Lastly, do not underestimate the smashed avo," Fang says. "It's the national dish for a reason, and it is delicious."

"National what now????" one user wrote.

Another added: "But why is this the worst advice 😂 is smashed avo now the national dish?"

One pot-stirrer added their two cents: "National dish is a snitty or a cob loaf the OG."

But of course, that's a debate for another time.
