Baker Tigga Mac shares her top tips to transform a store bought cake into a masterpiece
Tegan Maccormack, better known as Tigga Mac, is basically Australian royalty at this point.
The talented baker has gone viral time and time again for sharing her incredible cakes, some of which started out as a humble mud cake from the supermarket.
And while the final result often looks like an extravagant piece of art, she assures us anyone can give it a crack.

Maccormack spoke with 9honey Kitchen to share her top tips for turning a store bought cake into a masterpiece, and honestly, she made it sound like we really could do it ourselves.
Her top tip? Make sure you choose the right cake to work with.
"In all of the cake decorating that I do where I want it to be stable, mud cake is the way to go because it's heavier, it's denser, it has a lot of flavour in it and you don't need to add a lot of creams and things like that to the layers," Maccormack shared.
She added that a mud cake also pairs really well with a ganache icing, which is great for decorating since it also has a lot of stability.
Now, if you're not a ganache fan, your best bet is to use a buttercream, but make sure you do it right otherwise you could end up with a disaster on your hands.
"The buttercream that you use can also make a difference," Maccormack explains.
"So if you're using a store-bought buttercream just in a tub, they can be quite thick and hard to work with.

"I think nailing a fresh batch of buttercream and making sure it's nice and soft is important."
Maccormack says that if you're buttercream is getting too cold and stiff, the best thing to do is microwave a portion of it and stir it through the rest to warm it all up.
"You want you want the butter cream to be nice and soft, nice and malleable," she says.
