Succulent cakes are the cool bride's new obsession
Jakarta-based baker Ivan Oven creates intricate terrarium-like desserts.
Roses schmoses… Let's face it, we can add these delicate blooms to the done-to-death pile. Now brides in the know are steering away from rosettes and all that froufrou, towards trendy succulent cakes, also known as terrarium cakes.
Our recent obsession with these cacti cakes led us to Iven Oven's incredible Instagram account (@ivenoven), a Jakarta-based blogger and online sensation who has come to specialise in the gorgeous desserts. Check out some of her incredible creations in the clip above — you'll be mesmerised by her skillful use of colour, precision piping and keen attention the detail.
Using a palette of beautifully pared-back greens and earthy desert tones (think olives, seaweeds, moss, rusty reds and dusty pinks), the baking guru artfully hand pipes each plant out of buttercream, sometimes completely blanketing the cake in the ethereal sugar succulents, to stunning effect.
From sandy coastal-inspired versions to miniature cacti topped cupcakes, it's no surprise these chic multi-textured creations are winning over the internet. Iven Oven's Instagram account has garnered a following of more than 290,000, while Instagram posts tagged with #SucculentCake currently exceed 1800.
