It's the ongoing fridge debate that just never seems to come to any kind of mutually agreed upon conclusion: ongoing fridge debate or pantry.

No matter how many times someone on the internet asks the question, or how many times expert foodies give their definitive verdict, it just doesn't seem like it is something that people are going to agree on any time soon.

That was definitely the case when one person took to Reddit this week to call out his girlfriend's family — and his post, of course, sparked a heated debate.

"My girlfriend's family doesn't refrigerate their ketchup. That is all," he said in a post that received over 1,200 comments.

As can be expected, people had plenty of opinions on the matter.

"The bottle does say for it to be its best, refrigerate after opening," one person highlighted.

Another agreed: "I like my fries hot and my ketchup cold."

And a third quipped: "Some relationships just aren't meant to be."

Meanwhile, there were also plenty that disagreed with the need to refrigerate the condiment.

"Finally found my people! I only really enjoy it at room temp," one person commented.

"My mum didn't refrigerate ketchup, hot sauce, soy sauce etc when I was growing up," another wrote.

While some pointed out the fact that sauce is often readily available at the table at many restaurants.

"Lots of restaurants keep the ketchup out just sitting on tables. I don't see the issue," one person said.

The ongoing debate even saw Heinz get involved themselves after a virtual Twitter war broke out over the issue.

Heinz issued a statement, saying: "Because of its natural acidity, Heinz Ketchup is shelf-stable. However, its stability after opening can be affected by storage conditions. We recommend that this product, like any processed food, be refrigerated after opening. Refrigeration will maintain the best product quality after opening."
