Woman divides internet after figuring out 'right' way to open tomato sauce: 'I wish I knew this earlier'

A woman has divided internet users after claiming to find out the actual use of the "pointy bit" on tomato sauce caps.

In a video posted to TikTok, Laura, aka @momlifewithlaura, told followers that she had figured out the "right" way to open a "ketchup" bottle without having to tear off the seal.

"I was today years old when I found out that this little piece under the ketchup cap is used to poke a hole in the centre of the cover so that it is easier to get the ketchup out without having to remove the seal," she remarked.

She added, "Did anyone else know this?"

Laura demonstrated how to use it – and once she had spiked a hole in the seal, the tomato sauce flowed out of the lid seamlessly.

The video garnered plenty of internet attention, amassing over 21,000 likes and hundreds of comments from viewers sharing their thoughts on the "hack."

One stunned viewer wrote, "WHAT?!?! Every time someone pours ketchup, we get a flood. I wish I knew this earlier."

"Wow that makes it so much easier," another added.

However, some users weren't as impressed and took to the comments to dispute Laura's discovery.

"I mean it works for that reason but that's not why it's there lol," one person wrote. "It's to plug the hole so it doesn't get dried up ketchup in it."

Another added, "No its not for that its to cover the little hole on the cover and to keep your ketchup fresh."

"That's wrong," a third remarked. "Also the ketchup is much much easier when the entire film lid is removed."
