Punters at this year's Melbourne Cup are in for a feast with some delicious – and interesting – dishes on the menu.

Most intriguing of all is the grilled octopus coated in Vegemite available at the G.H. Mumm marquee inside the Birdcage.

Four times a day, 12 guests will be invited to enjoy the delicacies created by visiting French chef, Florian Barbarot.

Guests will be treated to the Vegemite octopus as well as a number of other small savoury-style dishes with a glass of the 2023 Melbourne Cup's official champagne, 2015 Mumm Millésimé to wash it down.

For those not quite brave enough to taste the odd flavour combination, there are plenty of dining options both in and outside of the Birdcage.

Aussie Chefs Luke Mangan and Curtis Stone will both be dishing up some delicious meals at their respective marquees.

Mangan and his team will be entertaining at the noodle bar, where guests can sit and watch as their food is made right in front of them.

Menu items include Sake and miso-torched ocean trout, grilled sirloin with mushrooms, and tuna with pickled lemon.

Stone has brought the flavours of his Michelin-starred Los Angeles eatery Gwen a bit closer to home in Melbourne.

"We have brought our signature dishes from Hollywood, so no need to take the long-haul flight," he told GoodFood.

Stone's Melbourne-based company Curtis Stone Events will also be catering multiple sites including the Nursery, Birdcage on the Rails and Lucky's Bar.

A select few inside the Birdcage will also be chosen to receive an invitation to the first-ever Melbourne Cup Don Julio Secret Bar where they will have the opportunity to enjoy some top-shelf tequila tastings.

Other meals available to those with access include citrus-cured kingfish, lobster brioche rolls, spanner crab cappelletti pasta, and thanks to a collaboration with Piccolina Gelateria, a pineapple and honeysuckle sorbet with Bin 51 Eden Valley Riesling jelly, yuzu and mandarin meringue, rosella sherbet and grapefruit infusion.

But what about those looking to dine in the general admission area? Well, we're looking less at lobsters and champagne and more at some delicious street style meals.

Think Brazilian tapas-style dishes, hand-made fried pork dumplings, chicken katsu bao buns, pork bratwurst sausages, and of course, the classic cheeseburger.
