In recent weeks, we've seen a wave homemade offshoots of popular fast food items doing the Internet rounds, including recipes for the iconic McMuffin and Big Mac.

Now a fast food fan has shared his recipe for another Macca's favourite, in a TikTok tutorial called "THE coveted MCNUGGETS." Watch the full clip.

The key to shaping McNuggets is keeping your hands wet, according to viral sensation Joshuah Nishi TikTok: @nishcooks

TikTok user Joshuah Nish (@nishcooks) has amassed a following of 1.6 million with his popular fast food tutorials, and his homemade McNuggets has been his most popular video to date.

In the clip, Joshuah starts by cutting chicken breast into cubes and blending them in batches.

"You can use a grinder if you have one, but I don't have one I'm guessing a lot of you don't have one," he says, adding that once consistency is smooth to season with a lot of salt and pepper.

Once it's time to shape the mixture he has a handy tip: "The key to shaping your nuggets is to keep your hands wet so it doesn't stick to you."

He suggests trying "McDonald's shapes", which includes "dinosaurs" and "countries".

The nuggets are then left in the freezer to chill for two hours, giving him time to prepare the nugget "dry mix" and a "wet mix" for deep frying.

Dry mix ingredients:

  • Cornstarch
  • Onion powder
  • Garlic powder
  • Salt
  • Pepper

Wet mix ingredients:

  • Egg

  • 1/4 cup cornstarch

Joshua demonstrates dipping each of the frozen nuggets into the dry mixture and then wet mixture, before setting aside for frying.

After boiling oil in a wok, he reveals another cooking tip; testing the temperature of the oil by dipping a chopstick into the liquid. "Once it bubbles around the stick" it's ready, he says.

Then each nugget is shallow fried for "about two minutes each side", with Joshuah being careful not to let them stick together in the pan, frying in small batches. The finished nuggets are then placed on a plate lined with a paper towel, to drain any excess oil.

The tasty tutotial has already garnered almost 28 million views and thousands of comments, ranging from "I APPROVE" to "I can't wait to try this!".

"Most important instructions of 2020," wrote one McDonald's fan.

"Not all heroes wear capes. Thank you friend," another TikTok critic commented.

Some people took to the comments section to take a swipe at the fast food giant, with some suggesting McDonald's could learn a thing or two from Joshuah's recipe.

"Looking too good to be McNuggets," one commentator spat.

"Fun fact: McDonald's is only like 2% chicken," wrote one critic, with another adding: "You forgot to add the plastic."
