'They will be missed': McDonald's quietly removes several McCafe menu items in major shakeup

McDonald's Australia has quietly removed several McCafe items from menus, in one of the biggest shakeups of the fast food giant since McCafe was first introduced in 1993.

Reddit users were the first to spot that Cheese Toasties had gone missing from the menu, and they're not the only item on the chopping block.

Macca's confirmed to nine.com.au that they are trialling a change to the McCafe menu and it is impacting several locations.

"At Macca's, we're committed to serving great tasting, great value food that Aussies know and love," a spokesperson said.

Maccas confirmed that the items that are currently being removed from menus include all of their toasties, banana bread, and raisin toast.

"We regularly review and evolve our menu to keep it exciting and focused on what matters most to our customers," they said.

"As part of this, we're currently trialling the temporary removal of McCafé Toasties, Banana Bread and Raisin Toast from a small number of restaurants across NSW and Victoria.

"These items remain available in the majority of restaurants across the country, and no decision has been made about any permanent menu changes.

"We welcome customer feedback throughout the trial and look forward to hearing what they'd like to see on our menu in the future."

It was a devastated fan who first flagged the changes on Reddit's 'Mcdonald's Australia' thread after they were unable to purchase their usual Cheese Toastie from their local McDonald's store.

"Noticed yesterday that the toasties on the Macca's menu is gone…..the toasties," they wrote.

"They always came out soggy and one time someone cooked a knife in mine. They will be missed as a vegetarian who enjoyed a good toastie."

The Redditor didn't share their location, nor did they notice any other missing McCafe menu items.

Upon visiting my local McDonald's location in Castle Hill, Sydney, I was also told Cheese Toasties were "no longer available".

However the Macca's worker suggested I try a Ham & Cheese Pocket without the ham, which I did and it was delicious, but it wasn't nearly as satisfying as a Cheese Toastie.

It isn't known which locations are being impacted, although I have confirmed the items have been removed from the Castle Hill location.

A quick visit to the menu at nearby Carlingford via the My Macca's app listed these items as "unavailable".

Also listed as "unavailable" are sourdough toast as well as Apple Crumble and Double Choc muffins.

McDonald's at Kings Park in Sydney's west has toasties, banana bread, raisin toast, and sourdough toast available, however Apple Crumble and Double Choc muffins are unavailable.

It isn't known how long the trial period will last and the locations of the McDonald's restaurants being impacted by the trial is unknown.

Feedback on the trialled changes can be given to McDonald's in person in stores, via their MyMacca's app, and by visiting the McDonald's Australia website.
