Magnum ice cream inventor chooses Aldi dupe over his own creation in blind taste test
Deb Knight has made Aldi's dreams come true with a blind taste test that left her listeners stunned.
On Thursday, the 2GB radio host had one of the food scientists who created the famous Magnum ice cream on 2GB radio host to compare all things chocolate-coated ice cream.
As a fun game and part of the interview with Joe Avati, Knight presented him with three unmarked ice creams – one was a classic Magnum and the other two were dupes.

As Avati tasted them, Knight joked, "Do you need water in between, like a wine connoisseur?"
After trying all three, he declared the first ice cream was his creation, the Magnum. But in a shock twist, it turns out the option Avati chose was not the Magnum – gasp! – but a dupe from budget supermarket Aldi.
"Can I tell you, that is incorrect. So, that was the Aldi ice cream," says Knight in the clip, which she shared to her Instagram account.
She goes on to joke, "The Aldi advertisers are going to be saying, 'We're gonna use this clip now, even the inventor of the Magnum thinks the Aldi is the real thing!'"
Avati was a good sport about it, having a good laugh in the studio with Knight.

The Monarc Utopia Vanilla ice cream is Aldi's answer to the Magnum and has a cult following of its own, retailing for just $4.49 for a four-pack, which is less than half the price of a $10.50 four-pack of Magnums from Coles or Woolworths.
Aldi has not skipped a beat, with the supermarket's official account commenting on Knight's Instagram video, "Well, you can't argue with science!"

Other followers added "Guess what I'm getting tomorrow," and "The Aldi Utopia is just the best, I buy them every week."
Looks like the Utopia's popularity might just have increased, too, with such a ringing endorsement.
