Flavoured ice cubes add a bit of zest to any drink, and the flavour of the moment is a tray made of your favourite frosty.

As a heatwave settles over Australia, the beer ice cube will add the perfect balance between flavour, refreshment and bubbles, helping you bounce back from the muggy weather.

The idea stems from Caffe Capri, a now-closed Italian institution in Brooklyn, where baristas famously put the alcohol-infused ice cube into their iced caffeine beverages.

Beer, unlike other alcoholic beverages, freezes perfectly well in sub-zero temperatures.

The lighter-bodied brews adding a soft touch to a drink, while heavier beers may dilute your beverage, so it's best to understand which drinks suit a mixing with the ale or lager you're choosing.

To make beer ice cubes, simply fill a tray half-way to the top, as the liquid will raise and carbonise.

A 330ml bottle of beer will be able to fill the entire tray. When pouring, avoid the cardinal sin of spilling too much foam into the tray, and opt to get the most golden body out of the beer bottle.

Then freeze for a few hours and enjoy.
