'This indicates the highest level of quality': Label 'code' that guarantees a good bottle of Prosecco

A wine expert has shared her secret to guarantee you are purchasing a quality Prosecco, regardless of the price.

According to TikToker Lexi (@lexiswinelist) all the information you need is on the label.

"Prosecco hack - look for 'Superiore' and 'DOCG' on the label. This indicates the highest level of quality for Prosecco," she says in a video.

"It comes from a specific area within the region and has been made in a way that meets the strict standards of quality."

The Los Angeles woman then chooses a bottle of Prosecco from her local supermarket, showing it costs just a few dollars more for the better-quality bottle.

Lexi's video has been viewed over 150,000 times, with many adding their own advice.

"Also handy to look for one that says 'method traditionale' which means it's made the same way as champagne but can't be called that!" one TikToker suggested.

To this comment, Lexi replied, "Yes good point! But that is less common for Prosecco specifically since it's almost always made using the tank method."

Another person joked: "The best Prosecco hack is to put it back on the shelf and pick up a bottle of Champagne instead."

Lexi regularly shares videos from stores showcasing affordable bottles of wine and sparkling wines, including regular visits to US store Trader Joe's.

In Australia, Aldi is making waves with affordable wines, with two of its $6 bottles winning awards in 2022.

The supermarket's South Point Estate Pinot Grigio 2022 (costing just $4.99 a bottle) and the South Point Estate Chardonnay Pinot Noir NV (at $5.99 a bottle) both came out with the double gold awards.
