Hamish Blake unveils epic birthday cake efforts as daughter Rudy changes brief last minute

Hamish Blake has been sharing his cake-baking efforts with fans on Instagram for several years.

But as the Lego Masters host gets set to make his daughter Rudy's third birthday cake, he's hit a bit of a dilemma.

"I was all set to make her a unicorn cake that pooped out glittery little (chocolate) turds. Then I learnt a harsh lesson in client/agency dynamics as she last minute changed the brief," Blake explained to fans.

"Tonight I will be making a far less exciting cake, but it's the one she wants and there's no changing her mind. As always, I have very little idea how this will go apart from knowing there will be drinking involved."

Sharing footage as he tried to convince his little girl to stick with the unicorn option, little Rudy wasn't budging from asking for a sheep cake, like her favourite toy.

On his Instagram Story, Blake revealed his four checkpoints for the cake are:

1. Head can be eaten off
2. Fully realistic Sheepy
3. Jazz up the base cake
4. Make Sheepy's head move.

After lots of mess and whisky, Blake finally completed the tricky task that began at around 7.30pm and finished just after 2am, proudly showing off his Sheepy cake, complete with moving head, jokingly asking viewers to answer: "Which... is which?!!"

The marathon baking effort wasn't without its hiccups, with multiple failed Sheepy head incidents pushing his finish time out by around 45 minutes (you may still be able to catch snippets of the ordeal in his Instagram Stories), but he seemed pleased with the final result.

The comedian concluded the cake saga by thanking viewers who'd tuned in till the wee hours, captioning a photo of the cake-strewn baking aftermath with a sleep-deprived poem.

"Thank you for staying with me. We drilled. We thrilled. We caked. We blaked. We no get much sleepy. But god damn it we made Sheepy."

While the ambitious plan had the funnyman working into the early hours of the morning, it's not his first rodeo.

Just nine weeks ago, Blake delivered on an Aladdin-themed Cave of Wonders cake for his son, Sonny.

Wife Zoe Foster-Blake penned a tribute to her husband's cake making skills, alongside a picture of Sonny thrilled at the final product.

"My little boy turned six today, and my husband once again triumphed in his kid-throws-up-an-idea-for-a-cake-and-he-makes-it-the-night-before-no-matter-how-ambitious, game. (It's the cave of wonders from Aladdin. It was extraordinary. There was a lot of LEGO, tequila and sticky tape involved. He was up til 2:30 getting the nose right. I am so impressed.)"

In the past, Blake has also produced a slime squirting monster cake for Sonny.

This is his first attempt at a cake for Rudy, telling fans the family's time-honoured cake tradition starts at the age of three.
