Peeling garlic

Garlic seems easy enough to peel until you have plenty of tiny pieces of casing on your fingers and discover that sticky film is impossible to remove.

This hack simplifies the process and keeps your hands free of that ever-lingering garlic scent.

Grab a head of garlic, with all its papery skin on, and drop it into a jar with a lid. Screw that lid on, and then give the jar a good shake.

Shake it hard until all the skin starts to come off and the head breaks into individual garlic cloves; 30 seconds of shaking should do the trick.

Once you remove the garlic, the skin will peel right off if it hasn't already loosened from the bulbs.

Cutting garlic can be tricky. The bulbs are often small and slightly slippery, making it difficult to get a solid grip.

French chef Carl took to TikTok to share an "unreal" hack for slicing, cutting or dicing garlic.

Using the back of a knife instead of the sharp side, Carl began chopping his clove, which quickly became perfectly minced.

The video quickly went viral, with more than seven million views.

"I was so amazed by this lol I have been doing it wrong. The things I learn from TikTok that just makes sense. Thank you sir," one user wrote.

Martha Stewart garlic smell hack

Martha Stewart revealed the easiest way to remove garlic scent from skin. TikTok

"Run your water warm, and you can use a knife like this, anything stainless steel. Just rub your fingers on it under running water, and the smell of garlic disappears," Stewart explained.

Anything that is made of stainless steel has the same effect thanks to a unique scientific reaction.

Of course, knives carry their own risk, so be careful so you don't cut yourself.

Garlic is packed with sulphur-containing chemicals. Stainless steel contains chromium, which protects the metal from rust. This also means garlic will cling to the knife and not your skin.
