9Kitchen puts 4 clever kitchen hacks to the test

9Kitchen Presented by GLAD

Everybody loves a good kitchen hack, especially if it means saving on time, mess, and stress ahead of the Christmas festivities.

To help streamline your kitchen prep, 9Kitchen put four handy hacks to the test to see just how well they work.

Use a Snap Lock® bag for icing

You won’t need fancy tools or utensils to ice your cupcakes like a pro this festive season.

Mix up your icing as normal, using your favourite flavour combinations (you could even mix up two colours for a swirl effect), then fill a GLAD Snap Lock® bag with icing.

Once the bag is full, close the seal tightly — watching the seal change colour so you know it’s secure.

Next, push the icing to the bottom corner of the bag and cut a small hole. Piping bags made easy!

Create some crunch

Many of our favourite Christmas desserts involve a delicious crunch! To get the perfect ice-cream topping, a base for your goey caramel slice, or even a Christmas cake garnish, use a GLAD Snap Lock® bag.

This technique is perfect for rolling out malt biscuits, digestives or graham crackers, or crunching up oats or cornflakes to top a fruit crumble.

Simply fill the bag with whatever you need to crush and close securely, ensuring no air is trapped. Then gently roll over the bag with a rolling pin and repeat until you’ve achieved your desired level of crunch.

Easy-to-line tins

This fail-safe way to line your baking tins makes hard-to-manoeuvre corners a thing of the past.

Scrunch your bake paper into a ball and run it under water. Then unfold and line your tins as normal — your paper should now be malleable and easy to fit into whatever mold you’re working with.

This technique can even assist in preventing dry cakes or cookies!

A mess-free sandwich

For an easy-to-clean toasted sandwich maker, line your sandwich press with baking paper. Place one sheet on the bottom, followed by your sandwich and then pop another layer of paper on top.

Once your sandwich has cooked, dispose of the paper — your appliance will be as good as new (we’re talking no gooey cheese left to bake onto the machine).
