How to make the most of your sandwich press

Well, it's that time of year. Things are cooling down and finally we're turning to proper comfort food to lift our spirits.

With that in mind, it was great fun to join TODAY this morning to talk through cooking fun meals on a sandwich press. I'm a huge believer that if you've got a kitchen gadget, you need to make it work for you and earn its space in the kitchen, otherwise you're cluttering up your space with gear you never really use.

Sandwich presses are actually very versatile, and just about anything you can cook on the grill or in a pan without a sauce can be cooked on your sandwich press. After all, it's really just a big, square pan itself.

This morning we started with this classic cheese toastie.

Just remember to use three kinds of contrasting cheese, and always butter the outside of your bread. Yes, the outside.

We moved on to this French toast with the trick of brioche bread.

Then we closed the deal with these blow-out burgers…

And then lightened it up with these pakora cheesy fritters.
