This single strawberry will set you back $31.50 but everyone who has tried it agrees on one thing
Unless you've sworn off of social media for the past 12 months, you're probably well aware of the luxury US grocery store giant, Erewhon.
You know, the place that sells the $40 pink Hailey Bieber smoothie that sent the internet into a frenzy?
Well, now there's a new overpriced Erewhon item taking the internet by storm.

If you haven't already seen the countless videos on social media of people trying it out, the next 'big thing' to come out of Erewhon is a $US20 (approx. $31.50 AUD) strawberry.
Yes, a single strawberry from Kyoto, Japan, shipped to the US to sit on the shelves at Erewhon will set you back more than $30 Australian.
But the thing is, people are buying it.

If you look up the words "Erewhon Strawberry" on TikTok, you'll be faced with countless videos of influencers holding up what, we must admit, does look like the tastiest strawberry we've ever seen inside a little see-through container.
"By the way I fully realise this is insane but we're doing it for the plot," said TikToker Michelle Angel before unboxing her expensive treat to try it out.
TikToker @foodwithsoy pointed out that there is also a QR code on the back of the packaging which provides you with instructions on how to eat the strawberry.

So, of course we scanned the code to find out what these strict instructions could possibly be.
The correct way to eat the $31.50 Erewhon Strawberry is as follows.
- Store in the fridge without washing, Rinse gently before eating.
- Pat dry and remove stem.
- Leave at room temperature for 30 minutes before eating to bring out maximum sweetness and aroma.

Now, there seems to be a general consensus from those who have been able to taste the strawberry – it's delicious. For some even the best strawberry they've ever had.
But, almost every video comes with a caveat, it's not worth the money.
"Honestly guys I've had strawberries that are just this good that weren't $19," said influencer @janemukbangs.

Just for reference, this single strawberry costs around 10 times what a punnet of strawberries would set you back at an Aussie supermarket.
At Woolworths a 250g punnet will cost you $3 and even at Harris Farm Markets, probably the closest thing us Aussies will ever have to an Erewhon, a 250g punnet only costs $3.99.
So, for now it seems us Aussies will never know the beauty of the $20 Erewhon strawberry, and instead we'll have to stick to our regular punnets at one tenth of the price.
