'I'm an English expat living in Australia - British chocolate will always reign supreme, no matter what'

OPINION -- Australia is a magical place to live for many reasons; the weather, the beaches and the breathtaking landscapes are frankly unbeatable.

But as an English expat living Down Under, there's one thing that will never compare to home – good ol' British chocolate.

Sure, Australia has a few good bars; the Cherry Ripe, the Violet Crumble, the Caramello Koala. But in comparison to the beauty, elegance and sheer deliciousness of, say, the British Galaxy bar? They don't even come close.

Aldi is bringing the best of British to its stores, including the Galaxy bar. Aldi

Aldi has heard the pleas of the British gagging for a taste of home, and this week confirmed its aisles would be filled with a "Best of British" Special Buys range.

A Galaxy chocolate block is of course on that list, and you can nab 100g of it for $4.49.

For those who haven't had the pleasure of chomping on a Galaxy, let me set the scene.

It's a silky bar with a sweet flavour that melts in the mouth like no other. It's not overly dark or complex in cocoa notes, it's just... pure, unadulterated indulgence.

Aldi is also stocking the beloved British Yorkie chocolate bar, which is a firm and thick bar with an extremely satisfying snap.

It's still sweet, but it's more of a hearty chocolate experience that fills you up.

A no-nonsense, chocolate hit when you need it. Australia could never.

They're also stocking a 'Sweets Bag', which Down Under you call... lollies.

It's packed full with British sweeties like Love Hearts and Refreshers, and boy are they good for a quick sugary boost.

I am aware Dairy Milk runs rife here, but I'm telling you now it tastes that little bit better – and creamier – in England.

I have an army of British backpackers who will back me up on this. It's inexplicably better in the UK.

ELITE.  Aldi

Cadbury previously confirmed it's the milk that makes the difference in taste, with the cows used in each country bringing through different flavours from wherever it's made.

Aldi is also stocking Cadbury Dairy Milk Buttons in Orange, Caramilk or Milk – so you can taste for yourself.

They're also whipping out the big guns – iconic 'chips' (or as I'd say, 'crisps') in prawn cocktail and Worcestershire sauce flavours are on sale.

There's also the delightful HP Original Sauce (which will go great on a sausage snag) and Bistro Gravy granules, which are just elite.
