Celebrity chef Silvia Colloca reveals 'one of the biggest mistakes' you can make when cooking pasta
For many, pasta is a go-to for a quick and easy meal.
It's one of the most universally loved and versatile meals, from the household favourite spaghetti bolognese to a creamy carbonara or pesto pasta.
You name it, and pasta will deliver.
But while it might seem like a meal that's pretty hard to mess up, there's one mistake many may not realise they are making in the cooking process.

In an interview with 9honey Kitchen, Italian-Australian celebrity chef Silvia Colloca, who is a brand ambassador for San Remo, has warned what not to do when you're making pasta.
Colloca says "one of the biggest mistake" you can make "particularly when you're making long pasta" such as spaghetti, linguine and bucatini, is breaking it into pieces.
"Do not break it to fit into the pot," she warns.
There are many reasons we do it, like to prevent pasta sauce splattering over our faces and clothes, but mostly it's just because it won't fit in the pot!
"You need to find a pot that's big enough so that you drop your spaghetti in, you fan it out, you swirl it around, and it drops, it surrenders to the pasta cooking water," Colloca explains.

"No breaking your spaghetti."
Over the years, Colloca has published multiple cookbooks and had several cooking shows with a focus on her love for authentic Italian food.
In 2014 she premiered Made in Italy with Silvia Colloca. Her other shows include the celebrity-guest series Silvia's Italian Table and the SBS Food show Cook Like an Italian.
The Italian-born celebrity cooking personality also works as a professional actress, starring in the likes of Van Helsing, The Detonator and Sting.
