Aussies voted this $8 staple the best base for festive desserts

Australia's favourite pavlova base is back on supermarket shelves.

Coles' Make At Home Pavlova base was named Australia's favourite in Canstar's Most Satisfied Customers Awards for Christmas, based on feedback from 1,500 Australians.

The Christmas staple scored a five-star ratings across all categories in 2024 including value for money, taste, freshness, packaging and overall satisfaction.

The base is currently on sale for $7.50, down from $8.

A Coles spokesperson told nine.com.au the win "reflects what our customers have told us – pavlova is the number one choice for festive desserts, with 28 per cent of Aussies picking it as their favourite."

"Our classic Aussie pavlova features a light, crispy shell and a soft, marshmallowy centre, ready to be finished with your favourite toppings for an easy and delicious Christmas treat," they continued.

"Available all year round, the Coles Pavlova Base is a true crowd pleaser, especially during the festive season when we sell 65 per cent of stock."

The Make At Home Pavlova base is the supermarket's best seller in the packaged cake category.

The supermarket's biggest day of sales for the product is December 23 and 24, and more pavlovas sell in a day on Christmas Eve than they do in a whole month at any other time of the year.

Meanwhile, Aldi took four of the top honours as Australian's favourite for leg ham, turkey, fruit mince pies and Christmas puddings.

The bargain supermarket's Berg Leg Ham sells for $12.33, their Christmas turkey is $27.99 for 3.8kgs, and their Curated Luxury Matured Christmas Pudding can be snapped up for $19.99.

Woolworths expects to sell 5.2 million pavlova bases and nests over the festive season as well as over 900,000 Christmas puddings, 13 million mince pies, and 1.4 million litres of custard.

Woolworths Bakery Large Pavlova Base is currently on sale for $7.50 each.

Aldi's Kringle & Co Pavlova Base is marked at $7.49. IGA's The Country Chef Bakery Co pavlova base is $7.50.

Each supermarket has additional pavlova products on sale for this festive season, including Coles Rustic Pavlova base for $12 and their petite and individual-serve pavlova bases and meringue nests.

Coles has also added a pavlova wreath to its range, their Coles Finest Luxury Madagascan Vanilla Meringue Wreath on sale for $18.

Woolworths also sells individual-serve pavlova bases and have this year launched an exciting new flavour – Baileys Flavoured Pavlovas in a four-pack for $8.50 as well as Lemon Myrtle for $6.50 per pack.

And Aldi is selling a pack of nine mini pavlova bases for $5.99.
