The $5.20 supermarket chocolate chip cookie crowned Australia's best in CHOICE review
The best chocolate chip cookies in Australia have been revealed.
Consumer group Choice taste-tested 22 different types of chocolate chip cookies from Woolworths, Aldi, Coles, Cadbury, Arnott's and more to determine which sweet treat would take first place.
A panel of experts tasted the cookie samples without knowing the brands and judged each type on its appearance, flavour, aroma and texture.

Surprisingly, the top three scorers weren't premium cookies the team expected to place first.
Third place went to Woolworths Bakery chocolate chunk cookies, which received an overall ranking of 75 per cent. Baked in-store, these cookies retail for $1.77 per 100g.

Second place went to the Coles Ultimate cookies 40 per cent chocolate chips which received an expert ranking of 77 per cent and sells for $1.25 per 100g.

Australia's number one cookie went to the Coles Bakery 'dreams crumb true' New York choc chip cookies.
These delicious snacks earned a rating of 78 per cent, cost $1.83 per 100g (or $5.20 a pack) and were also the healthiest of the bunch with the highest Health Star Rating.
"Coles took out both first and second place in our testing, followed very closely by Woolworths in third place," Choice Editorial Director Mark Serrels said.
"These cookies beat some of the more premium options in our testing, proving that price does not always equal performance."

"The Coles Bakery 'dreams crumb true' cookies came first in our testing with a score of 78 per cent," Serrels said.
"Our experts praised these cookies for their dark chocolate chunks and said they were quite crunchy with a little bit of chew in the centre."
