'Kicked it out of the park': The verdict on the Oscars red carpet
The 96th Academy Awards red carpet saw everything from old Hollywood glamour to the cult classic sequins trend.
Now Hollywood's night of nights has come and gone for another year, Today Extra has broken down the 2024 Oscars fashion.
Speaking to hosts Sylvia Jeffreys and David Campbell the next morning, entertainer Matt Gilbertson, who goes by the stage name Hans, revealed the highlights, and some low points, of this year's red carpet.
Read on to see what Hans and the hosts had to say.
Margot Robbie
Margot Robbie traded her Barbie pink for a strapless black Versace gown for the Oscars.
The Aussie screen star then glitzed it up for the Vanity Fair afterparty in a striking gold Mugler bodysuit from the 1996 runway.
"She looks like she's ready to join Beyoncé on the Renaissance tour, doesn't she?" Hans said, referring to the singer's dazzling world tour look from designer Alexander McQueen, Mugler, and more.
"This is the afterparty look we were looking for."
Margot Robbie
While admitting he also did "love" the main ceremony gown, Hans and the hosts considered if the simple black dress might be a "revenge dress" after months of Robbie wearing pink for the Barbie press tour and awards season.
America Ferrera
Barbiecore truly swept the Oscars red carpet this year.
Barbie star America Ferrera was one of the many donning the doll's signature pink in a glamorous custom Atelier Versace gown.
Zendaya
Zendaya opted for a more subtle integration of pink into her look in this fitted Armani Privé gown.
Ariana Grande
While Hans praised Ferrera and Zendaya's takes on the Barbiecore trend, he said Ariana Grande's didn't quite meet the mark in his opinion.
Grande wore a custom baby pink Giambattista Valli Haute Couture gown to the Oscars, which marked her first red carpet appearance in four years.
The star also presented the best original song award during the ceremony alongside her Wicked co-star Cynthia Cynthia Erivo.
Emma Stone
Another trend to storm the 2024 Oscars was the mermaid style – from flared hems to Anya Taylor-Joy's scale-like ballgown.
Best Actress winner Emma Stone brought back the peplum top for her mermaid-esque moment on the red carpet, which Hans "wasn't really a fan of."
But when asked by host Sylvia Jeffreys which one of the mermaid gowns "stole the show" for him, the entertainer had a clear favourite.
Lupita Nyong'o
Lupita Nyong'o's feather Armani Privé gown was Hans' stand out.
"This is my favourite one," he said.
"Lupita always knocks it out of the park," host Jeffreys chimed in.
Carey Mulligan
The next trend the Today Extra hosts broke down was the return of Hollywood glamour.
The classic black and white combination harks back to old Hollywood and the golden era, bringing a touch of luxury to the 2024 red carpet.
Carey Mulligan wore this velvet Balenciaga gown that resembled a longer version of Margot Robbie's Schiaparelli Spring 2023 Haute Couture gown she wore to the Asteroid City premiere last year.
Greta Lee
Greta Lee also opted for a black and white ensemble on the red carpet, wearing Loewe.
