Meghan Markle's wedding dress designer reflects on working with the royal bride

This time two years ago, Artistic Director of Givenchy, Clare Waight Keller, was putting the final touches to one of the world's most talked about wedding dresses.

It was beamed around the globe and featured on front pages around the world when American-born actress Meghan Markle wed Britian's Prince Harry in 2018.

Now, the designer is offering insight into her collaboration with the Duchess on the historic bridal gown.

"Two years ago today I was in the final fittings for a very secret dress," Waight Keller wrote on Instagram.

"So many emotions were running through me during those months leading up to the big day."

The designer reflected on the "incredibly beautiful relationship of trust and intimacy" she developed with Markle through "hours of conversation, meetings together, and research".

Waight Keller revealed the bride's directives for the design was "purity and simplicity".

"It was obvious the significance of this occasion was more than any other, it would be a very personal ceremony with so many choices that would reflect both the bride and grooms heritage and their unique way of being incredibly inclusive, genuine and generous," she wrote.

The designer also pointed to the intricate hand-stitched detailing in the veil, which was filled with "a narrative of nature through the 53 florals of the Commonwealth to bring the world into the journey of the ceremony".

Previously, Markle revealed her "something blue" was cleverly stitched into the silk tulle veil also.

In the HBO documentary Queen of the World, the Duchess of Sussex opens up about the secret tribute to her royal husband hidden within her spectacular five-metre-long veil.

"Somewhere in here there's a piece of blue fabric that's stitched inside — it was my something blue," Markle remarks, picking up the veil in the footage.

"It's fabric from the dress that I wore on our first date."

Accompanying her dress and veil, Markle wore a Queen Mary filigree tiara, lent to her by the Queen. According to reports, it was last seen in public during the 1800s.
