Sophie Monk breaks her own Logies red carpet rule in daring lace look she saw for the first time hours before the awards

It’s Sophie Monk as the Logies red carpet has never seen her before: wearing black and looking downright ravishing in it.

The Love Island Australia host arrived in a dramatic lace gown designed by Sonia Cappellazzo, the brilliant sartorial mind behind Cappellazzo Couture, which was only finished one day before the 2026 Logie Awards.

Monk, 46, has been filming in Fiji and only landed back in Australia and saw the finished gown for the first time yesterday.

That also happened to be the day of her third and final fitting for the dress, meaning any last-minute tweaks were made literally hours before the event. It was a tight deadline, but Monk assured us all the most glamorous stars in Hollywood do the same.

“We said we’d do it the day before, which I’m pretty sure is what the Kardashians do,” the TV presenter told nine.com.au.

“To be honest, that’s the ideal way because then it will fit you for the day perfectly, but I think most people would be very stressed.”

Monk wasn’t fazed by the tight turnaround, nor was she worried about breaking from her own Logies red carpet tradition to step out in black for the very first time.

“I just wanted to look simple and beautiful,” she said of the vampy lace Cappellazzo Couture look.

“I think I’ve done every colour under the sun, like literally. Eventually you run out of colours, but black I always find looks neat and tidy and pretty.”

Cappellazzo tells nine.com.au her design process is shaped by her belief that “the most important thing is for each gown to feel like an extension of the woman wearing it”.

“We wanted something playful and feminine, with sheer lace elements contrasted against a fluid, liquid-like train that brings movement and a sense of ease to the look,” she said.

“We played with the contrast of sheer lace and liquid draping. This feels playful and inviting while remaining sophisticated and tasteful.”

It’s not the first time Monk has trusted the brand to help her deliver a show-stopping moment on the Logies red carpet.

Monk, 46, wowed last year in an effortlessly feminine white Cappellazzo Couture creation, which featured a plunging neckline and structured modern bodice over layers of delicate tulle and chiffon.

As for the vision behind this year’s design, Monk said she wanted to lean into Old Hollywood glamour.

It’s become a tried and true formula for the presenter, but she’s a firm believer in not fixing what isn’t broken.

“Every time I try something new, I’m like, ‘why am I doing this?’” she laughed.

“I do try different things in Love Island, but I’ve done so many red carpets now that I’ve learned you don’t experiment on a red carpet.”

Monk is the first to admit not all of her Logies looks have been hits.

Back in 2002, when she was just 24 and attended with her Bardot bandmates, Monk hit the red carpet in a pair of low-rise white slacks, a midriff-baring scarf top and a statement necklace.

That was more than two decades ago, but she still remembers the look clearly.

“Someone made me those pants, but I didn’t have a top for them,” she revealed with a laugh.

“But I had a friend that had a scarf, and we just made that into a top. That’s how that happened.

“That’s one of those [outfits] that probably was more ARIAs than Logies, but was in music then and trying to be a bit cool.”

The other priceless lesson Monk has learned after more than 20 years of Logies red carpets is to pack comfortable shoes to change into as soon as the cameras stop flashing.

“I’ve got a wide foot as well, so my little pinky toe on my right foot usually has to be sacrificed,” she quipped.

Monk specifically opted for a longer gown this year to ensure her feet will be hidden when she swaps from glamorous heels into hotel slippers during the awards ceremony.

“I’ll have them in my handbag, and then just whip out the slippers under the table. You’ll never know!”

This year, Cappellazzo is also responsible for the looks worn byToday’s Sarah Abo and Renee Bargh.

The vision for Abo’s outfit was “refined elegance with a minimal edge” and “high fashion with clean lines”, the designer says.

“We used a considered play of textures and sculpted fabrics, adding depth and giving her silhouette a quietly refined look,” she adds.

Meanwhile, Bargh’s look was all about elegance, “with twisting fabric in gunmetal wrapping her body showcasing legs and with that considered result yet modern minimalist.”

Cappellazzo says the rich gunmetal tone was “perfectly suited” to the Nine presenter’s presence.

“The effortless draping allows the gown to move with her, creating a look that feels completely natural yet balanced with exquisite hardware,” she says.
