Why superstar Katy Perry is wearing a QR code on her lower back at the MTV VMAs
The MTV Video Music Awards red carpet is no stranger to wonderfully wacky fashion.
This year's event saw everything from medieval accessories to a motorcycle suit.
But one of the most eye-catching details on the red carpet came from singer Katy Perry.

It was a big night for the pop star who later took to the stage to perform a melody of her greatest hits before accepting the coveted Video Vanguard Award.
For her arrival on the red carpet the Roar singer opted for a tattered skirt and top set by designer Who Decides War from their SS25 RTW collection.
Perry brought back the "wet look" with her hair out loose and some silver makeup.
When she turned around though the star made a very mysterious style statement...
The Teenage Dream songstress had her maxi skirt unhooked to reveal a QR code printed on her lower back.

Needless to say fans went straight into detective mode.
"Wait what does the QR code read," one person asked on X (formerly Twitter).
It turns out the QR code isn't just there to look cool – it does in fact work!
If you scan the code on your phone camera the link takes you to Perry's website portal to pre-save her upcoming studio album titled 143.
"OH THE QR CODE THIS IS SUCH A SERVE," another person said in all capital letters.
"katy's QR code tattoo is to presave 143!!! her mind," someone else said in awe.
Perry's upcoming album 143 is her sixth studio album which comes out September 20.
The album features her already released singles Woman's World and Lifetimes.

On the same day as the VMAs, Perry announced on social media her next single I'm His, He's Mine featuring American rapper Doechii will come out early on September 13.
Perry's upcoming album marks her highly-anticipated return to music after four years.
The singer teased her new music era in May when she changed all her social media profile pictures to a cryptic red logo with her initials.
