The surprising headwear trend that's about to explode
It's no secret fashion is cyclical – the Y2K style revival of the past few years is a perfect example.
But it seems we're looking further back than just a couple of decades with one emerging trend.
Enter: the 1920s-style crochet cap.

Fitted to the head but not as thick as a beanie, these crocheted hats – sometimes dotted with beads, sequins and other adornments – are being hailed the 'accessory of the summer' over in the Northern Hemisphere.
They've been popping up on social media for a while now, but things amped up last week with one of the most-watched style events: Copenhagen Fashion Week.
Scroll through the photos and you'll find vintage-inspired crochet caps everywhere, in all kinds of colours, shapes and styles and worn with a range of outfits.

Given the dominance in Copenhagen, there's a good chance this bohemian trend is on the precipice of exploding and reaching Aussie shores.
Obviously, it goes without saying these caps offer zero sun protection, so probably don't reach for one if you're going to be out and about all day, especially in our Aussie sun.
But there's no denying they're a cute way to add a pop of colour or interest to an outfit.

According to Women's Wear Daily, these hats can be traced back to nightcaps women wore in the late 1800s and early 1910s to prevent their curls tangling in their sleep.
They've evolved over the years, from a flapper style staple in the '20s right through to the '70s, when they had something of a renaissance.
In 1971, actress and style icon Ali McGraw famously wore a navy blue crochet cap to the Oscars – and let's not forget ABBA's Agnetha, who rocked a blue crochet skullcap when the band won Eurovision in 1974.

Crochet caps aren't the only headwear trend enjoying an unexpected comeback at the moment.
Bandanas – a '90s staple – are back in the zeitgeist, largely thanks to Gracie Abrams, who was spotted wearing them during the Glastonbury festival in June.
Knitted bonnets, complete with under-chin straps, have also popped up on catwalks and on the streets.
