Prior to the coronavirus pandemic, the words spring style and hats may have been evocative of the races or even Melbourne Cup Day — but a new charity initiative has turned the humble hat into something to brag about.

Vaxed Hats is a three-for-one deal, whereby Aussies can buy a $35 (plus shipping) mid-profile, five-panel cap with a pre-curved peak emblazoned with the message "Vaxed," simultaneously declaring proudly your vaccine status and encouraging fellow Aussies to move beyond the 70 to 80 per cent fully vaccinated target.

Additionally, $5 from every Vaxed Hat goes towards Beyond Blue, specifically their 24/7 Support Service — an essential service, the demand of which has skyrocketed as lockdown persists.

Beyond Blue's 24/7 Support Service provides "immediate, short–term counselling, mental health information and referrals to anyone in Australia via telephone and email 24/7."

The hats themselves come in six different styles, all of which have a black and white "Vaxed" box located front and centre.

As for the reasoning behind why the hats say "Vaxed" and not the common "Vaxxed," according to the Vaxed Hat website, it's to reclaim a sentiment that has been co-opted by those against vaccines.

"The double x version of the word has been weaponised by the 'anti-vaXXer movement' and now has negative connotations," the Vaxed Hat website explains.

"This is why we have decided to use 'Vaxed' on all our hats — as a positive term for good."

Aussies far and wide have been proudly showing off their new hats, including 2GB radio host Ben Fordham.

A total of 27 million vaccines have been put into the arms of Australians, with the Federal Government saying yesterday that Australia has hit 53.4 per cent of over-16s having both doses, with 77.3 per cent having had one dose.

Australia's reopening plan is reliant on COVID-19 vaccination rates of 70 per cent, and then 80 per cent in each state or territory.
