For every pet named Charlie, Luna, and Milo, there's a Chewbarka, Gorgonzola, and a Dr Sir Puddles Pipsqueak.

Lort Smith Animal Hospital in Melbourne has shared the most popular and the most unique pet names for 2025.

For male dogs, many pet owners can't go past the classics like Charlie, Max, Milo, Buddy and Archie.

For female dogs, the go-to names remain the most popular; Bella, Luna, Coco, Dakota and Daisy.

But some Mebournians have gotten creative with their pets' names. Many have gone for food-themed dog names, such as Cadbury, Riceball, Scruffy Bear, Eggbert, Apricot Boy, and Banh Mi.

Some were pop-culture inspired, like Blade Runner, Bruce Wayne, Chewbarka, Bontempelli, Pikachu, and Princess Piggy. Other beloved dog names that made the list include Sir Edward Philip Jamieson The 3rd AKA Moo and RinkleBinkle.

For our male feline friends, some popular monikers include Milo, Simba, Leo, Charlie and Max, while many female cats are named Luna, Bella, Kitty, Daisy and Lulu.

Some more creative feline names featured include Furrballz Wizard of Oz, Bumble Bee Bear, Le Chonk, D-Artagnan, Emergency Rations, Herbert MrMeowyMcMeowerson Miyake-Mugler, Lieutenant Cheeseburger, Lord Ludwig Smoochy Butts, Potato Dragon, Sir James of Meowsworth, Sir Waffle Fluffy Butt, KitKat Smoocheroo, Dr Sir Puddles Pipsqueak, Forklift Certified, Tiger Shark Cannonball and Tokyo Pickles Mew Mew.

Pocket pets such as guinea pigs, rabbits, and ferrets are not immune to the naming phenomenon.

While the more common names in this category include Luna, Gingerbread, Gizmo and Pedro, some of the more creative names they have include Daisy Doodle Delightful, Delilah Dumpling Diva, Gorgonzola, Grimble Crumble, and Viscount Julian Alfred Pankratz III.

Lort Smith spokesperson Suzana Talevski said, ''Naming a pet is always very personal and people do tend to take longer to name pets these days.
