A home owner in the US has arrived home from a recent trip to find her cat trapped following a bathroom renovation.

Ashlin Hadden from Indiana explains on TikTok (TikTok) that she'd organised for the work to be done on her bathroom while she was away in New York on a business trip.

Usually her cat, Cookie, would run up to her for cuddles upon her return from a trip but she seemed disturbed, and Hadden couldn't find Cookie's brother Stripes at all.

"As I'm sitting here trying to figure out where my cat is, I can hear the cat crying from somewhere in here," she explains.

She realises her cat is trapped in the wall of her home.

Hadden rushed to a neighbour's house and asked to borrow their drywall-cutting tool.

One hole in the wall later, and Stripes was free.

Her video sharing the experience has been viewed more than 2.6 million times.

Hadden later told TODAY in the US about her renovation plan, explaining, "I'm a single mum, and I love my bath. So I just wanted a new bathtub, like a taller bathtub, so I could get in the bathtub and actually be under the water."

She organised for the bathroom renovation, leaving her cats with automatic food and water dispensers as well as a little box. She informed the contractor her cats would be in the home while they did the work.

Hadden was happy with the result, until she realised Stripes was trapped behind the wall.

At least she was able to cut a hole in the drywall instead of having to damage anything in her new bathroom.

"Curiosity killed the cat, not the contractor," one TikToker commented.

"Omg if I had a dollar for every cat I drywalled," another joked.

"I mean did he not look before sealing it off... isn't that part of the job to make sure things are right? like not sealing in a live animal," added one TikToker.

Another comment reads: "We had our rr redone & the cats were always trying to go in there. sneaky kitties. we had to count kitties before closing everything up."

"Apparently this is more common than I thought," another said.

While many pointed the finger at the contractor, others felt it was Hadden's fault entirely.

"Everyone agrees, it's your fault, not the contractor," one said.

Another commenter was more empathetic, sharing, "My cat got locked in a linen closet for 2.5 days, he's okay."

"My cat got stuck inside the upstairs bathroom floor/basement ceiling once. He got in through the unfinished ceiling in the laundry room," another wrote.

"I bet the contractor did that on purpose. Nobody just accidentally drywalls a cat inside the wall," another suggested.
