The Wiggles' Simon Pryce reflects on 100th album and how touring has changed since he became a dad

The Wiggles recently released their 100th album and despite the huge milestone, the beloved group isn't going to be slowing down anytime soon. 

The children's group, which started in 1991, has been entertaining families for over three decades, and they're now seeing both parents and kids enjoying their music together.

"A lot of parents who grew up in the Wiggles now have children, so they're reliving the Wiggles through their children, which is something really, really special," said Simon Pryce, the Red Wiggle.

The huge achievement of creating 100 albums is something that isn't lost on the group. 

"I know 100 albums is a bit incredible, I think Anthony is almost as old as that too," Pryce joked.

It's a milestone even the younger members of the group can appreciate.

"To be part of a legacy that's been going on for 33 years and to be on the 100th album is pretty wonderful, and I just love it," said Tsehay Hawkins, the Yellow Wiggle. 

When it comes to touring The Wiggles are a well-oiled machine, but some songs just feel a little bit more special, no matter how many times they're performed.

Pryce, who shares a three-and-a-half-year-old son Asher with wife Lauren, admits that there's one song that stands out for him. 

"It has to be Rock-A-Bye Your Bear. It's one of the original classic Wiggle songs," he said.

The performer now understands the meaning behind it after seeing his son dance to it.

"When you sing, 'Everybody clap' and your child claps their hands three times for the first time, puts their hands up in the air and does all the actions, you realise that that's a developmental milestone for a child at a particular age," he said.

"That song is being totally geared for that moment in a child's life and as a parent, there's nothing more special than seeing a child reach those milestones."

For Hawkins, who's part of the generation that grew up with The Wiggles, the songs that really stand out for her are the ones every mum and dad knows inside and out. 

"If I was talking about performing live, Hot Potato or Fruit Salad is one of the best, because all the parents get excited because they remember that song," she said. 

But, like Pryce, she's got lovely memories of her parents singing Rock-A-Bye Your Bear to her, which makes it special.

Touring is also changing for the group, who are all growing their own families too.  

Lachy has twin girls and a stepson, Simon has his family, Anthony's daughter Lucia has actually joined the group, Caterina Mete recently welcomed twin girls and the group is about to get bigger with John and his wife expecting a boy in December.

"I think we need to get a creche on the road now," Pryce laughed. 

"It's nice having all of these children around and you know, it's good research too."

Hawkins added that it's so nice having so many kids and families on the road too.

"Every time Simon brings Asher along the girls are all – the 'Wig-gals' – very, very excited, we love hanging out with him," she said.

And while she's not at the stage of life of starting her own family, she and Lucia have formed such a close bond they're referred to as 'the twins' now.

"It's so great to have someone who's my age," she said.

"We're known for laughing a lot on set."

Pryce jumped in to add, "They have to go to the naughty corner quite a bit."

As for what's in store for fans and families at the Wiggle and Learn Big Show towards the end of the year, it's going to be one big party.

Pryce hinted DJ Dorothy is also going to be making an appearance too.

"DJ Dorothy's latest album, The Rave of Innocence, has been a hit all over the world and there's going to be a bit or raving at the concerts," he added.
