Simon Pryce on the emotional aspect of fatherhood he 'never expected'

Simon Pryce doesn't have a say in what he will be doing for Father's Day today – because it's all up to his cheeky two-year-old son, Asher.

"We're going to the park, going down slides but, really, that is what my joy is now. Seeing him so happy and seeing him fulfilled," the dad tells 9Honey Parenting.

Although, while opening up about his role as a dad, the Red Wiggle admits there is one part of parenting that doesn't quite bring him joy.

"You have a whole different perspective on life and mortality becomes a thing," Pryce says, speaking about the emotions he feels when he thinks about how lucky he and wife Lauren Hannaford are to have Asher in their life.

"You worry about your child's health and your own health to make sure that you're going to have this life together.

"That was something I never expected at all, to have those kinds of thoughts."

The dad and children's entertainer admits that he does worry about things that are unfortunately out of his control.

It's something he never used to really think about before he became a father. But despite all the extra worry, Pryce wouldn't trade what he has for anything.

"You can't really explain it until you experience it, the love you have for your child," he says.

"I just try to make sure that I'm as healthy and well as I can be, because I want us to grow old together."

Pryce, who is enjoying a two-week break at home just before The Wiggles head off on the Ready, Steady, Wiggle! USA & Canada Tour, is grateful he gets to spend Father's Day with his family.

"I am sure he'll make me a cup of tea from his pretend kitchen to celebrate," he laughs.

Asher is set to turn three in January, and his parents are loving every second of raising the cheeky boy.

"I'm loving being a dad. It came later in life and that's just the way it happens sometimes," Pryce, who became a father at 47, tells 9Honey Parenting.

He and Hannaford wed in 2017.

Although Father's Day is meant to be about him, Pryce can't help but give his partner a shout-out on the special occasion.

"She really is the greatest mum in the world, and she does have to take a lot of the heat because I am away a lot," he says.

The Red Wiggle is gearing up for a busy end to the year, heading to the US and Canada and then back home for the WIGGLY BIG DAY OUT! Tour later this year.

"She is extraordinary, and my heart for both of them just keeps getting bigger and bigger I think."
