When an 11-year-old boy stood on the side of a suburban street in Utah, holding a sign that he was selling beer, concerned neighbours put in calls to the police.

But when officers from Brigham City Police Department met the young entrepreneur, named Seth Parker, instead of arresting him they posted his photo on Facebook, applauding him.

The department praised the school boy's clever 'marketing strategy' and gave him their full support.

You see, Seth wasn't selling 'Ice Cold Beer' but 'Ice Cold Root Beer', which is a non-alcoholic beverage.

However, on the sign, he had cleverly kept the non-alcoholic details as fine print.

"This young man, in the area of 600 South 200 East, has a twist on a lemonade stand," the Facebook post said.

"Yep, he’s selling beer ... ROOT BEER, that is. His marketing strategy has resulted in several calls to the BCPD, but apparently its paid off as business has been good."

"Quite honestly, once our officers got there they found it quite ingenious," Lt. Tony Ferderber told CNN.

The lieutenant added the officers were so impressed they all bought a bottle.

And business has been booming since the police helped advertised his summer holiday business.

Seth's mum and dad helped him with his marketing ploy and aren't surprised it worked.

"What better way to get peoples' attention?" his mum, Alexis Parker told the news network.
