Teacher astonished by identical twins with near-identical names: 'ridiculous'

Naomi White

Ask any teacher for the worst names they've come across, and you'll be in for a long conversation.

From the misspelt, to the made-up to the 'naughty' kids names, they've seen it all. But one teacher was left truly gobsmacked after meeting students who were identical twins... with near-identical names.

Sharing the monikers on Reddit, the teacher asked for others to share their own 'ridiculous' sibling names, opening a can of worms for bad name pairings.

"I'm a substitute teacher and currently working in a room with identical twins named Selene and Selina," the teacher wrote. "Please convince me to not call CPS (child protective services)."

They also shared it wasn't unique to these girls, saying a friend had taught twins named Mary and Marie.

'That doesn't even seem legal'

Redditors delivered, sharing their own outrageous name pairings.

"That doesn't even seem legal," argued one person.

"My husband went to school with twins named Chris and Christopher," added another. "I went to school with twin girls named Kristen and Kirsten," said a third.

"Unique and Uniqua. Identical twins. So glad I only had one of them in class, I don't think I could have taught both with a straight face," a fellow teacher shared. "I also knew a set named Marilyn and Carolyn."

"(I) worked as a TA (teacher's assistant) before and worst names I saw for twins (were) Kathy and Kathie. No middle names so they literally had same name, with different spelling," divulged another.

Others sympathised with the logistical challenges this must pose for the teacher.

"I can imagine their paperwork nightmare. I know Valentina and Valentia with very similar middle names. They literally had to fix almost all their docs, because of typos or middle name mix-ups," one person revealed.
