New mum offended when partner calls their baby ugly

Kate Rafferty

A new mum is not talking to her partner after he told her their baby was "ugly" just one day after she was born.

Posting to Reddit, the 22-year-old man explained that though his girlfriend gave birth the day before, he had decided not to hold back on making jokes and comments on their baby daughter's appearance - which can only be labelled a big rookie error.

"The baby was ugly, to be perfectly candid," the man's post begins. "She's mine, and I love her, but she was NOT a pretty baby."

He then explains that he decided to "casually" bring this up to his girlfriend while they were chatting before bed, though she didn't quite react how he expected.

"She was upset, which I find odd. I didn't mean to hurt her feelings, I was just telling her how I felt about our kid," he writes.

"Truth be told, the baby is interracial (half Han Chinese, half Punjabi), so it was always a possibility that a potential child would be kinda goofy looking," he adds.

"I don't think she had to be offended. Not every child can be cute."

The new mum has been hit with an ultimatum from her husband.

Unfortunately, the man didn't seem to realise his insights wouldn't be ones his girlfriend would find comforting. Particularly not after having just given birth.

He ends his post revealing that his girlfriend is not talking to him and he "doesn't know what to do."

Immediately, Redditors have rushed to the comments to give their opinions on the situation.

"How in the blue hell did you get a woman pregnant if your social skills are bad enough that you need Reddit to tell you that you shouldn't tell a woman her newborn baby is ugly," wrote one user.

"You told the mother that you thought her newborn was ugly?! Tell whoever you want that you know won't tell the mother, have a giggle in private, kids look weird, especially babies but DON'T mention it to the mother," another commented.

"Let's all just hope that this baby gets her common sense from her mother," a third person joked.

Another simply replied: "'What is wrong with you?"
