'Dear Mums: you need to get in your family photos'
Fiona Coble
Just get in the bloody photo.
“One day, all your children will have is pictures of you. Make sure you're in them. No matter what your hair looks like, your makeup, or your body, they won't care about any of that, they'll just want to see you."
I don't know where that quote came from, but it's 100% true. I need to be reminded of this whenever my vanity takes over and I do that weird 90 degree, tongue-on-the-roof of the mouth model pose. Or when I'm absent in the photo as i'm holding the camera yelling "smile for mum".

Take them when you look fantastic AND even when you look like a big pile of poop.

I can't tell you how many times I've deleted photos of myself when I look like Garfield after a meth binge. I've deleted photos when I think I look too fat, too tired, too cross-eyed, too 'face patchy', when I have messed up hair or even when there was just too much ‘kid mess’ in the background.
What a selfish dickhead I've been.

Their mum was definitely the messy ponytail, non-makeup wearing, sometimes grumpy resting bitch-faced mum who completely and utterly loved them. And that's what a 'real' photo will remind them of.
So get your damn face in front of the camera and give your family the true memories of you they deserve.
